DAN (Divers Alert Network)
Under the direction of Dr. Peter B. Bennett, DAN (Divers Alert Network) was born in 1980 following the initiative of scientists and university professors of international standing in the USA and in Italy, who understood that the managing of a diving emergency requires a special knowledge not commonly found as part of normal medical structures. DAN is a non-profit organisation devoted to assisting divers in need by operating and maintaining an international network of alarm centers, active 24 hours a day, guaranteeing in the event of an emergency specialised assistance to any diver anywhere in the world. The DAN Training Department organises courses and seminars with the aim of increasing the knowledge and sense of responsibility of recreational and technical divers. The DAN Research Department conducts significant medical research on scuba diving safety. DAN's studies are revealing important information that benefits the entire diving community and improves recreational diving safety worldwide. DAN provides financial and technical assistance to hyperbaric treatment centres in developing countries.
